Why School Guidance?

High school is the final transition into adulthood and the world of work as students begin separating from parents and exploring and defining their independence. Students are deciding who they are, what they do well, and what they will do when they graduate.

High school years are full of growth, promise, excitement, frustration, disappointment and hope. It is the time when students begin to discover what the future holds for them.

Well Lit Tunnels

It is always good to know whether or not you are on the right path. The right path does not indicate going to college, but knowing that you will succeed in anything that you do. The role of a high school counselors is to show you that there is a light at the end and that it is attainable. With the right guidance and focus anyone and everyone will succeed.

We Are Not Teachers

Guidance counselors pride themselves on not holding the title of “teacher” because of the barrier that comes with the position. Rarely do students get an opportunity to convey their thoughts about their problems or questions regarding their future to their teachers.
On the other hand, there is always someone at Hanna Guidance that:
- is there to listen
- whose job is to do everything but judge you
- to inform of all you choices - not to persuade you
- to make sure that you hear what is needed to be heard
- to guarantee fairness and equal focus for every student

One would be surprised at how many smiles shown by counselors were from the students that look to us for help and guidance. Do your share and visit us soon.

Always available, your 2008-2009 Guidance staff.

The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship is a merit-based program established in 1988 to recognize the most academically talented high school seniors and encourage these students to attend college in the State. The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program is administered by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. Palmetto Fellows may receive up to $6,700 their freshman year and up to $7,500 for their sophomore, junior and senior years. Assuming continued eligibility, Palmetto Fellows may receive Scholarship funding for a maximum of eight full‑time terms of study toward their first bachelor’s degree at an eligible four-year institution in South Carolina.
